** crap box ** the electronic knights pack series issue 1 we welcome our new member and pack maintainer: ** slash ** !!! packmenu credits: * code bifat * music slash * gfx nero * font plasma the first three issues are some kind of 'worst of tek' from the past couple of years - compiled by bifat - before we hand the task of pack maintenance to slash. see membertro for more details and greetings too! some info coming up about productions. with the production 'sothis' i (bifat) joined k2 as my secondary group. so after almost 30 years i was for the first time not only in tek! (strictly speaking i left tek from 2003 to 2015 for inactivity and lameness - in some kind of rage quit. but i'd rather sweep that episode under the rug now. however blue and i then continued on the playstation 2 as some kind of side-project, neoscientists. in 2008 we called it quits on the ps2 and neoscientists was de facto disbanded. in about 2015 i reapplied for tek membership when i was about to start doing things on the amiga again... and what could they do, as the mailing list was running on my server... just kidding. we are not very strict about such matters. we do not have a leader. what we have are elders and authorities. but back to sothis: this is not 'so - this' ... but sothis! like the ancient egyptian name for the star sirius in later greek records. what, you don't know old egyptian mythology and astronomy you didn't know the egyptians were later ruled by greek dynasties gosh, you uneducated slob. to simplify: 'from where the ufos come', as zed yago has put it. that sothis exactly, not 'so this'... ok, next up: 'cranker intro' might look a bit rushed. but it couldn't be helped. as i had no chance to design anything, i decided to make it as ugly as possible, and see what happens. i had only very few hours to do the production - out of the spontaneous decision to visit the gerp party and release my first amiga production in 18 years - and to visit my first (well, mostly) amiga party in decades. first it was planned to be a remote entry - because i planned to attend a small meeting in rostock. that's why the text still reads 'greetings from rostock' - i intended to finish it during that meeting. but remote is lame, so i decided to skip the smaller event and go to sweden. that was on friday. blue was upset because i 'promised to cook dinner this evening'. which was true. blue was out of the demoscene for a while, and pussywhipped as i am, i did... cooked dinner on friday afternoon. after having dinner i jumped in the car and drove off. i wasn't to sweden from berlin by car before, so i took a very bad route, not going by ferry, but via denmark. in addition to that, i took a very unfortunate detour. the navigation suggested to go to the island of fehmarn and use another opportunity for skipping hundereds of kilometers - by ferry from puttgarden. but i wasn't aware that there could actually be ferries in the middle of the night in such a remote place that looked like a morgue. so halfway to puttgarden i branched off and used very small rural roads to reach kiel and the highways again. that took a long time. oh the stupidity. going through denmark was also more expensive for fuel and bridge toll. when i arrived in skovde on saturday morning after a total of about 14 hours, i was tired beyond description and needed a rest. so i had about 4 hours left to finish the production. but it was worth it, because what was introduced in the intro might be one of the most advanced crunchers on the amiga. not so much for the compression ratio, but with regard to speed and system integration. as can be seen, it's not only blazingly fast, but you can also have a progress bar (or picture) while loading. so for big productions spare us titanics cruncher or (the otherwise excellent) shrinkler - it's way too slow for bigger productions. text restarts...
